Quid Pro Quo Director

It is a latin phrase which literally  means "something for something". English speakers often use the term to mean "a favour for favour.

Director of an institute & some senior scientists  have the same salary.  Why then some one will take the extra burden.  In what way it is a higher post, and why people run after the post. It is because you can get the benefit of quid pro quo. Director of an institue has immense power. He can get the vicarious pleasure of a king and treat other employees as his subjects.   Popular quid pro quo sexual harassment also takes place in similar work places.The Directors can humiliate, misbehave and harass other employees if they do not toe his line. Some of the Directors who are from different disciplines and have nothing to contribute enjoy this. But posterity will not remember them and will throw them like a fly in the milk

Hindi Speaking Bong - 3

Having learnt his Hindi from Biharis settled in Kolkata/Bengal (who proudly claim to be Hindi speaking Indians). But the truth is their toungue is either Bhojpuri/Mathali or some other ill-conceivable dialect, which is different from Hindi, having grammer similar to Bengali. So the Bongs keep making the same mistake as the Biharis.
Having embarked in a Metro city he finds two different Hindi being used I)  Hindi spoken by the Hindi speaking politicians  and II)  Hindi as spoken and used in day to day life, also known as Spoken Hindi, which is also used in Hindi cinema and songs. The first one is heavily tainted with Sanskrit words whereas the spoken Hindi is more punctuated with Urdu words that is borrowed from Farsee and Arabic.
So apparently Urdu and Hindi are same as far the grammar is used , only difference is the words e. g.,  alfaz (الفاض) in Urdu and Shabd (शब्द) in Hindi, and also the script of the two languages are different.
So the Hindi speaking Bong gets confused and keep speaking Bong Hindi and he has no scope to learn the spoken Hindi as Urdu is not taught to Hindi students. And the Netas Hindi is not acceptable in day to day life. The problem can only be solved by the linguists dealing with the subject.

Remembering Kuldip Kaur/Bijon Dutta and Kamala Daljit

There were some very successful inter regional ( Hindu -Sikh) marriages in SPV. One was Mrs Kamala Dalgit married to  Mr Daljit whom we never saw wearing a pugrre and who used to pick up his wife in his self driven car.

The other was  a very tall Bengalee PT teacher Bijon Dutta and a Sikh PT teacher Kuldip Kaur.The Bijon Sir had left the school and used to come to our school to pickup Kuldip Mam on his Royal-enfield bike.
I was told they live in CR Park,  my regards and best wishes  for them.

Hindi speaking Bong -1

বাংগালীর হিন্দি -1

'আমার ছেলে বাংলা লিখতে পারেনা'  এক বাংগালি মহিলা গর্বের সাথে বলেছিল Delite cinema (Delhi) হলের সামনে(কোনো এক রবিবার) আজ থেকে 45  বছর আগের কথা , একটা বাংলা সিনেমা দেখতে গিয়েছিলাম।
আজ 50 বছর পর অনেক বাংগালি বাড়ির ছেলে মেয়েরা বাংলা লিখতে ও পড়তে পারেনা। কারন হিন্দি /English medium এ পড়ে।
কিন্তু হিন্দি থেকে বাংলা লিপি  শিখতে 24 ঘন্টা লাগে,  এটা আগে বলা হত। Internet এর আমলে এটা আরো কমে গেছে। যদি ইচ্ছা থাকে?
আমি 50 বছর বাংলা লিখিনি, এখন আমি বাংলা কথা বাংলা লিপিতেই টাইপ করি। আমার মনে হয় সচেতনার ও চেষ্টা অভাবে ভুগছি আমরা।

'বাংগালীর হিন্দি- 2'

বাংগালীদের হিন্দি শিখতে অনেক সময় লাগে।  আমি আজ পয্ন্ত কোনো বাংগালী নেতা কে impeccable হিন্দিতে ভাষন দিতে  শুনিনি। অথচ নরেন্দ্র মোদি গুজরাটি,  even নরসিমহা রাও তেলেগু perfectly impeccable  হিন্দিতে ভাষন দিতেন।
40 বছর দিল্লিতে থেকেও বাংগালীরা হিন্দি correctly বলতে পারেনা। এর প্রধান কারন হল দুটো ভাষা  যদিও Sanskrit based,  কিন্তু  ব্যকারণ আলাদা।
আর একটা কারণ হল বাংগালীরা হিন্দি শেখে বিহারীদের কাছ থেকে, বিহারীরা যদিও claim করে Hindi speaking ওদের ভাষা হল Bhojpuri/Maithili etc যার ব্যকারণ আবার বাংলার সাথে মেলে।  অর্থাত ওরা যা ভুল করে। বাংগালীরা ও তাই ভুল করে।

My days in SPV New Delhi

I studied in SPV from class 1 to XI and passed in 1969,  I am a resident of Kolkata since Oct  1976 .I retired as Principal Scientist and Head of Division of ICAR-Nirjaft-Kolkata.
Can any body help me with the dates/year of the following incidents
1. When Mr Atal Behari Vajpayee visited our school,  in sixties.
2.The Bus accident at the crossing of Lodhi Road On which a student died.

I remember the bhakti Geet 'Kadam kadam badhyaya ja' during the prayer again in sixties.
Football player Silverter Gomes nbwho belonged to the 1968 batch,  who still comes during the Sarawati puja, I was informed.
I remember Shankerda the great singer. His  baritone voice still reverberates in my ear.
Old memories are always sweet.

Aie Moreche - Laxmibai Nagar (New Delhi)

Way back in the sixties when we used to live in Vinay Nagar (now Laxmibai Nagar) New Delhi, there lived a Bengalee family who had a number of sons and one senior son (whom I still remember vividly). Lot of noise would be coming every time I passed by the house. The head of the family had a difficult time managing the sons and making both ends meet. But one word could be heard distinctly that is Aie Moreche (এই মরেচে). The family was populary known as Aie Moreche (এই মরেচে) family. The reason of writing this piece is the senior son whose name I do not remember,  but although from a Bengalee family he was revered by the toughs (Dada's) who had a say in the locality.  He would be speaking impeccable Punjabi peppered with the choicest slangs viz., Maixxx. I was awed because mastering Hindi was itself was a tough subject * for Bengalis but he had mastered the Punjabi language  effortlessly  and had a place in the rough a tough world.
